SK Crop & Create Event - yeesh, where do I start - I am sure it has taken all week to get my ab's & cheeks to mend a little from all the laughter and smiles that took place!! I was disappointed that Canada Customs held up some product - so I will offer to receive the goodies and provide a nice home! (oh the sacrifices!) **I am so thrilled that you were able to create the amazing classes and scrambled for us - there was no need to do that, but it does not go unappreciated!!

I was disappointed that I couldn't take part in the make in takes - but that is since I was in all the Awesome Classes and then socializing with some very talented, down to earth scrappy sisters! I know we are not supposed to meet with people on the internet, I have however, met some amazing people I am happy to call my friends & future roomies (that i happily kept them in giggles through the night)! The talent in SK should not go unnoticed and I am secretly happy that I did not have time to take part in the challenges as there was a beautiful showcase of talent - Congratulations to the Layout & Card Winners!

Now a week has gone by and my dreams filled with Huggable scrappy friends (I am such a hugger), visions of sponsors, new product, great displays of food, layouts, cards, classes have slowed a little and the drooling over the amazing swag bag has subsided..a bit! The swag bags and the "surprise" (don't want to give it away!) , it was so well thought out and now it will leave me buying more! The on-site stores - Lori from Scrap Studio and Just Scrap it - provided such a beautiful assortment of new products, that my wallet left feeling a little lighter!

I am not usually a complainer, but I do feel it's your responsibility to put a warning out ** You will laugh, cry, buy, eat, create, make the bestest friends and your family will be seen through the photo's you will scrapbooking every moment you get! I also like to take a pro-active position and where there is a problem, I seek a solution... The only solution I see at this point is to do it AGAIN!!! - How's November for you?!!!!

Slave Lake & Manitoba

My heart is going out to those who have lost everything due to the Fire that ravaged Slave Lake and of course I am continuing to pray for the Flooding in Manitoba

I was massively purging on the weekend and wasn't quite sure yet where I was going to donate "my stashes". Well Sunday at 1 am that answer came to me as I learned about the devastation in Slave Lake. Since then I have been phoning people, sending emails and posting onto every Facebook page I was able to.

I have been calling people & places to find a place where we can drop off donations here in Saskatchewan!! Yahoo SK Peeps, Walmart's in Saskatoon is accepting your donations to Slave Lake!! ** for my area, I am waiting to hear about Yorkton, as the Manager wasn't in store today.

**If YOU have something to donate, I will be pleased to come get it and deliver it for you. Please direct your monetary donations to Red Cross where you can specify where you want the money directed. DO NOT send cash, please ensure it is a reputable business if money is requested.

If you are in another area of Province, please contact your local Walmart as bulletin's are being sent from Head Office to locations.

Always Hurts?...

On a day when trying to get out of bed today (thank goodness Shanae laid with me & we watched Tangled...again).     I can barely move, head is pounding, lists are getting longer and piles are growing bigger - but with a migraine hitting it's intended target and my back saying you can't lay down, stand or sit.. what other options are there?!

I need to Thank Christy for such a beautifully written article (everyone should read it!) and it allowed me to write what I have always wanted to express and hopefully provide others an insight into Chronic Pain. I have had a lot of rough day's, and spent this morning making some Dr. appointment's, then I turned on my laptop and saw Christy's story - perfect timing / divine intervention / angels putting it in my path... whatever the reason, I am grateful! Knowledge is Power, so I hope that I can help someone as Christy helped me... just because you can't see it, a simple pill doesn't fix it.. doesn't mean it doesn't exist!!

I know I am lucky to be here and that laying in bed with my dd is something some never get to do. I am able to get up and walk (even with pain), I am grateful to be able to stand with my kids and make meals and sit and listen to them tell stories.   On really good days (and the drugs are kicking in) I can dance with them and play.   I know that I am lucky to have a place where we play, laugh and I can do the floors on another day.   I do try to find at least 3 positives a day so that my focus is somewhere else...I am human, I get dragged down lots. I hurt lot's, however I have kids counting on me and usually am the only one here 24/7 so not alot of choices..just Do It!

I know that in order to take part in activities (I have been able to attend some scrap events - 2/year) that I will be "popping some pills" (all under Dr.'s instruction, etc.) so that I can sit, laugh, stand up, dance around and be able to laugh away with all my scrapping friends. I am able and very willing to participate with my kid's functions, event's, getaways - well I pay in the long run, but I am too stubborn to miss it.

Now I have been working with Dr'.s (yes plural - 10+ different Dr's - SK & AB - chiropractor, specialists, acupressure, acupuncture, neurologists, therapists, muscle therapy, I have a BP machine (last months Dr. appt) as High Blood Pressure may be why I am tired, no energy and sore, I am also going to try light therapy soon ... the list is endless. I have & continue to be poked, prodded, x-ray's, scanned, i have "come down" off alot of different drugs (i am proud of that, but some days wish i had them!)...the only thing i have turned down is taking a 6 week body therapy/clinic in Saskatoon or Regina. I do not have over a month to leave my kids, my place and stay in a hotel for 6 weeks, especially with their dad working overseas//not an option & since deep tissue scar damage was done by physio on my back before I/it was ready doesn't make me want to jump at the inconvenient opportunity! (my Dr's do understand this and support me)

I have heard several times and it probably will never stop - have you tried this? you need to be more active? you have to just keep moving? you need these drugs you need these herbs! you need this Dr.. you need this... you need this... you need this...    WHAT I NEED: is for everyone to understand that it is Chronic Pain, it exists, it is incredibly painful and it isn't something you can see, you can't feel it.. but I can,

I have Chronic Pain and I am lucky enough to have a very high pain tolerance.. medical problems with my back include: Rheumatoid Arthritis, missing vertebrae, Spina Bifida Occulta, Scar tissue damage, deep tissue damage,..(i have too much to list..) as well, I now also suffer from Depression (oooh another scary word.. right?..nope - not for me, I am just happy to be diagnosed and working towards a better me) and then have had severe Migraines (since my teens & mom took me everywhere to find solutions to them).. drugs and working on pressure points sometimes helps me. Everyday I have a headache (which is like a bad headache to others) again, since I can tolerate a fair amount of pain I am able to get through most days. When you see me with black eyes, wanting a cool dark place and sick to my stomach and reaching for the $100 tablets (yes that's the price of med's working for me) then watch out it's a really bad day for me!

I am continuously working with my Dr.'s, searching for new herbal medications as well as the narcotic prescriptions I use.   I research as well as invest in new ideas and perhaps an opportunity that could allow a little relief to my pain as well as not spending $400/month. I take medication to try and sleep as the aches, movements etc are waaaaay too much and I wake up in tears all the time, rocking back & forth and wanting better med's! Most day's, I break out in sweats from pain, and loss of breath is not just due to being unfit, overweight, etc.. it is pain!    I am sure I can predict weather changes better than a weather person with training as my body gives me painful signs.

Again, thank you Christy for putting your bravery out there for others to see, feel and perhaps learn. I hope that my post will take people to Christy's story as well as have my friends & family understand my situation or even learn something that can help someone they know.

I am not going to stop pursuing options and I am proud of how far I have come and I am the best I can Be and I am Proud to be Me!   I will keep trying to attract the positive in my life and keep counting my blessings                      Thank you for reading this.

Children's Christmas Store!!

As many of you are aware, I have been sponsoring a “Children’s Gift Shop” since 2004. The shop I implemented is for children registered in the school system the kids are able to purchase a Christmas present for their Mom and their Dad for $2.00 a gift (only 2 gifts/child). No Parents Allowed (you can’t peek J), while you wait outside the door, volunteers will help the children. Perhaps some of you in the past have been pleasantly surprised to receive the gifts presented to you at Christmas.

Once again this shop has proven to be a great success in all our hearts; therefore, I am organizing another exciting afternoon for the school-aged children within the community. In order to reach all children, the store will take place in a school afternoon where all students should be (no band, hockey, skating…). I am asking/begging that you donate NEW items suitable for the children to purchase for their parents as a Christmas gift. All year, I spend my time getting gifts together for this store, I separate them (Mom/Dad) and then they are stored in my home. When the children purchase a gift for $2, they are getting a gift of greater value as well as having it wrapped and labeled by your child.

I count on all of you and your donations to keep this shopping experience alive and running every year. If you plan on having your children attend the store, please ensure that you are providing enough gifts for others to purchase as well. If you have nothing available, or time is a factor, a cash donation would be appreciated and a gift will be purchased on your behalf. Some items for donation that would be suitable are: boxed stationery, jewellery, perfume, dishcloths, dishtowels, pictures, nail polish, pen and pencil sets, books, ornaments, wallets, bubble bath, playing cards or games, caps, coffee mugs, chocolates, toques, calculators, cologne, manicure/pedicure sets, shaving kit items, etc. Perhaps you are “crafty” and would like to donate some home-made items as well.

I am in need of any gift bags, small boxes, wrapping paper, ribbons, etc. that could hold some of these gifts as well. (please also remember on Christmas day to place these aside and bring to school in the new year, so I can store and have for the 2011 Children‘s Christmas Store)

The school has offered the use of the School Office again, so please drop off your donation in the box provided (thanks, Mrs. Sliva). If you have a large amount to donate, please call me so I can arrange pick up. I check once a week for items dropped off and pick them up, bring them home and get them ready for the shop.

All proceeds will be presented to the Preeceville School, for distribution within the elementary side of school; this year the money will be applied towards purchasing a reading program. This is a huge pay-it-forward opportunity, you can donate gifts (chance to re-gift in a positive manner), and once the children purchase a present, ALL the money is then donated back.

A huge thank you to all my volunteers, without you helping me, this dream of mine wanting to help kids enjoy and experience a loving & giving Christmas would not have come to life! Kids, I thank you so much for stopping me in the hallway, on the street at other events, it makes me so happy that you truly enjoy this experience and look forward to it months in advance. I do the best I can and rely heavily on the parents & communities’ participation.

I love creating these little post-it note holders (you just place the stick pad on the holder and use one at a time - i put up other ideas here{scroll down}), how can they not bring a smile to your face when you jot down a message. Something fun to jazz up your desk, bedside table or wherever you need to write it down [careful, they may just walk away with it]!

I created this holder using Kiki Art product...

Door Hanger covered in paper, and then the flap is folded over and held closed using magnets hidden under paper strips. (picture is on Kiki Art blog)

Now when i need a quick not jotted, i reach for this holder and inside is a little pencil and post-its. enjoy

Layouts of Dad

I am so thankful to Tammy for loaning me some product & paper cutter, to Christine & Lois for sending me scrapbooking goodies in the mail, after answering my plea for some goodies to keep me busy while dad was in the hospital.

As you now are aware, my dad is now with mom watching over us. For dad's Celebration of Life, i took a bunch of "dad, papa, grandpa, bob" pictures and I because of your generosity & kindness, I was able to create layouts that I placed on Poster Board for all to look at and enjoy!

You can see that we had a screen of dad's images playing, we also had two digital frames on the table as well as framed photo's. The empty vase was where the 3 grand-daughters placed hand-picked wildflowers, as those are what dad loved. There are two bigger vases flaking the table (the tall one is for Carol and the shorter one on the left is for me) - we chose these as there is trees and perennials in them so we can plant in his memory at our house. The other flowers were from friends & family - thank you.

Celebration of Life!!

THOMSON, ROBERT POUND

September 4, 1931 to July 31, 2010

We are heartbroken to announce the loss of our dad, Bob Thomson, after a lengthy illness. His strength, courage and determination inspired his family and friends, as well as the medical community. Bob is lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol (Brian) Stuart, son Raymond Thomson (Margaret Shkimba), daughter Linda (Daren) Shewchuk as well as his cherished granddaughters, Whitney, Christina and Shanae. He is also survived by his siblings Bill (Klare) Thomson, Beverly Marshall, and Betty (Chuck) Smith along with sister-in-law June Thomson and numerous other relatives. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of over 48 years, Bernice, youngest brother Alan, and his parents, Robert & Olive Thomson.

Bob was born in Empress, Alberta. He grew up working on the farm in Innisfail and then joined the R.C.A.F in 1951 where he trained as a radar and communications technician. He was stationed in Ontario for 3 years before transferring to the Penhold Base in 1955 where he met Bernice at a dance. They married in 1956. After leaving the Air Force, he apprenticed as a welder. Bob worked for Canadian Western Natural Gas for over 20 years. He bought his own welding outfit, then eventually worked as a field superintendent, followed by contract inspecting for CWNG. He retired in 2000. Bob & Bernice enjoyed travelling and spent many enjoyable winters in the southern U.S. in their 5^th wheel along with numerous other memorable trips. Bob took pleasure in having family and friends visit the farm, especially after Bernice passed away in 2005. He always loved the outdoors. In recent years, he liked sitting in his sunroom watching the wildlife. His penchant for chocolate bars and drive thru’s was well known.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bob’s numerous healthcare providers over the last few years - they not only took excellent care of Dad but also took the time to care for & share with us as well. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held in Okotoks, Alberta on Saturday, August 7^th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Snodgrass Funeral Home followed by a light luncheon.

If so desired, memorial donations can be made to STARS, Peter Lougheed Centre of the General Hospital, and/or the Oilfields General Hospital.

Design Team Call - Kiki Art

The time has finally arrived! We are thrilled to announce the Kiki Art 2010 – 2011 Design Team call for this upcoming winter/spring! We are looking for talented and committed designers who love to create with bright and fun products. To apply, please email your application entitled Kiki Art DT Call to sarah@kiki-art.com with the following information:

1. A little bit about yourself. When did you start scrapbooking? How would you define your style? Are you on any other design teams? Have you been published before Why would you make a great addition to our team? Please note that previous design team experience is not required. Be sure to include your first and last name, city/state/country, and your email address.

2. A link to your online gallery and/or blog so that we may get a general feel of your work. If you have a scrapbook resume, please feel free to send it in your application.

3. A scan or photograph of three (3) scrapbook layouts, one (1) card, and one (1) other project that displays your style. We would love to see projects that use Kiki Art products, but all applications will be considered.

All applications must be received by August 23rd.

Those invited to join the team will be notified via email, and the new team will be announced on the blog in early September.

New design team members will serve for six (6) months beginning in September 2010. Designers will be required to create a minimum of three (3) projects each month, participate on the design team forum, promote Kiki Art, etc. Designers will receive all products needed to complete their assignments, and compensation of published work will be negotiated.

Oh My Gosh!!! I am in fa la laa laaa la land!! You all know how much I love Christmas, every room, every spot, outside inside in my home is decorated for Christmas, even my Truck!!

**PLEASE, I need Scrapbooking Supplies!

As most of you are now aware, i quickly had to leave my house in SK in an incredible rush as I rec'd a call at 11 p.m. that my dad was being airlifted from one hospital to another.... I managed to grab a couple of outfits for me and my girls, have gotten a couple more here as well as some toys and coloring for them.

**I need Scrapbooking SUPPLIES ****

I have my laptop and am able to now work from the farm as i borrowed my sisters aircard... here, is my request. I need scrapbooking supplies - cutter, scissors, healing mat, paper, product (especially Kiki Art, Urban Lily)!! I am here for a long time, and need some scrapbooking to keep me busy & take my mind off running overtime. I travel to Calgary (Lougheed Hospital) everyday with my girls and can try to meet up with you. I can either return the product, or i will take it home with me (have no idea how long i will be here.. but we are hunkering down for the summer at least) and then donate it to Children's Hospital - I would love to pay you back with product (I have a ton at home...).

Update on my dad - he was removed from ICU tonight and now is on a different floor and is still in isolation unit as bad Pneumonia. He is still weak, hard to get up and stand or sitting position. His stats are looking good, but he is strugling lots with breathing and normal activities like getting in pulled up position. We are taking it day by day and hope that his incredible strength prevails again. Thank you to all those that have been there for me and my girls supporting us, offering positive thoughts & words of encouragement. ...as for me - well I am moment by moment, it's incredibly hard watching someone I love (again) go through all this pain, I am glad I have my girls with me as i find I cry less when they are around. (the last time dad was admitted was a long 6.5 weeks w/o seeing my girls..)

I have been stalking the animals for this shot!!!

It's been about 3 years since we had over 48 Moose on one Quarter Section (160 acres) - 17 bull moose - on our Canola field during the winter months.   Satellite imaging showed that this was the highest amount of moose in one area in SK - was starting to be called the moose capital of Saskatchewan - accoring to DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources - wildlife).

We used to have a Cow and her calf that lived just beside the house, i would get Christina walking to the bus, as the Cow and her calf went the opposite way.   The bus would come and do tours. At night we were on the watch for poachers as it was an open target.   The moose came to the "Shewchuck corner" because that year we voluntary canola came up on the quarter, and apparently they loved the 'cabbage type' leaves.

Since then we have been having a Cow and her twins - yes twins, every year. We see them all the time and I never get a picture.   While we were roasting weiners during quad trip July 6th - off in the distance was "my shot", now i only have my Sony Cyber Shot (DSC-H3) 8.1 mp and was able to get this shot...

Aren't they cute, I always see the calf when it's a year old and "gangly" looking - so happy to see the calves!!
Now my next shot will be a close-up - stay tuned!

Then you see tadpoles (they are the length of my hand... huge), then we found mud hen eggs..., lastly out in our field thousands of snails - crazy...

I know, i get excited about a ton of things, I absolutely get giddy during Winter & Summer CHA events - who would not want sneak peeks of all the awesome, fun goodies that will be arriving soon near you!!!

Packing Tape Transfer

This is such a great technique... Here is how to do it. - please don't forget to share with me!

Choose and cut out the image you wish to use. Magazine photos work very well for this technique

This one is cut from a gift bag. You can get tons of images for various projects from just one gift bag.

Adhere packing tape to the front of your image. Burnish with a bone folder.

Soak in a bowl of water for about 10 minutes.

Take out of the water and gently rub off the paper on the back. This is a little messy.

Use only the pad of your thumb or finger. If there is still some paper, soak it in the water some more and try again. The one from the gift bag took several more soakings than the magazine image.

Apple Pizza Source: H. Sheppard, The Aurora Newspaper, 14 Wing Greenwood, NS, Canada - Sept 24, 2001

This is a great recipe to try w/ kids. You can make one big pizza or break the dough up to make li'l pizzas so everyone can make their own! The kids can roll out the dough, add the sugar, cinnamon, etc… to the cut apples and arrange the apples on their own pizza. You can even have the kids invite a friend over to have an apple pizza making session!

Part 1: Quick Rise Pizza Dough-
SIFT together:
1 c flour
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp quick rise yeast (or 1 package)

MIX together:
1 cup warm water
2 Tablespoons oil
ADD to the above ingredients and BEAT vigorously for about 1 MINUTE. (This is done to add air to the dough)

NOW, ADD:
1 cup flour and mix until you have dough firm enough to form into a ball. (You may have to add a little extra flour.)
Cover bowl and let rise for about 1/2 hour til dough has risen somewhat. (Trick- I always place the bowl in a warm spot in my kitchen.)
Knead the dough a little. (To save a lot of mess, try kneading the dough right in the BOWL!)
Spread dough onto Pizza pan. (If you are worried the dough has not risen enough, remember that most times it will finish rising in the oven while the pizza is cooking!)

PART 2: Making the Apple Pizza! Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

SLICE UP: 6 cups peeled apples and mix them with 2 T lemon juice. Place the sliced apples onto the Pizza Dough.

MIX TOGETHER:
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 cup margarine (softened)
1/2 cup bread crumbs OR Rolled Oats

Sprinkle mixture over the apple pizza. Bake in oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool slightly. Serve warm. (Great with Ice cream.)

Totally I can relate and i wish others would see it more as an Art than just a hobby! What other "hobby" can you preserve and relive memories over and over again through an artistic, creative eye? Sunday - if it's not raining, then the kids play with water! Shane and Christina riding around racing.. then Shanae starts washing off "her wheels", her sister starts nanananaing behind her, so Shanae nails her with hose... then Christina grabs red umbrella - teasing - wet, runs and grabs bigger umbrella - teashing - Wetter!!! I loved taking photo's as the action went down!!

Well it was a short soccer season but this time we didn't sit with blankets wrapped tightly around us... NO, we had to have wetsuits instead!! Scrapbooking Chalks

Scrapbooking Chalks are a great inexpensive way to add color to your scrapbooking page. With a simple set of basic chalks you can add shading, highlighting to your various types of papers, stamping,punch art and die cuts. They will allow you to be more creative and give your scrapbooking layout character. Be sure when you buy your chalks that they are not just artist's pastel they need to be acid free just like all of the other things you use on your scrapbooking pages.

There are a variety of tools that you can use with chalks including q-tips, cotton balls, eye shadow applicators and tissue. Experiment on a scrap piece of paper with the various tools to see what kind of effects you can get. Start with a light touch you can always add more color. Always start with the lightest color and add to darker when shading.

If you are going to be chalking an embellishment be sure to use extra caution when glueing. The chalk will stick to the glue. Chalk can be used to tint ribbons and fabrics.

To fix mistakes you can use a chalk eraser that is available at most craft stores. Fix mistakes quickly though chalk does become permanent

Chalk does not generally need a permanent fixative, the pigments in chalk become permanently set in just a few hours. You can use a acid free spray fixative available in craft stores but be careful not to spray your photos

Have fun and experiment...let your creativity run wild. Chalks can be a lot of fun !

Batik Paper - How to Make it!

If your wanting an unique background paper for scrapbooking try making batik paper its fun to make with your favorite stamp and a few other supplies.

Materials:

Mulberry paper in either white or a color
A bold stamp ( preferably one that is at least partially solid)
Clear embossing powder
Clear embossing ink
Water colors in two complementary colors
Spray bottle of water
Paint brush

Directions:

1.Tear the edges of the Mulberry paper to the size you want your finished piece of paper

2.Stamp randomly on the paper with embossing ink and sprinkle with embossing powder, melt the powder with heat-embossing tool (Hint: do not put your stamped images to close together you want the batik background to show )

3.Lightly spray the stamped page with water. Dipping you brush into the watercolor pigment and touch the paper on the edge. The paper will pick up the pigment and bleed. The paint will spread over the as the water on the paper picks it up (Hint: the larger the amount of paint on the brush the larger the area it will spread to, if the paint doesnt spread spray the paper with more water.)

4.Add the second color in the same way. The alternate back and forth between the colors until you get the desired effect on the paper.

5. Let the paper dry thoroughly before using in your scrapbooking or altered art work.

Wildlife Ride

Today was last day of school so we decided to hop on the quads and go for a ride... I was hoping for more pictures of bambi's and some moose calves... instead we got this!! Here's a daddy Kildeer trying to lure us away, they pretend to be injured so you go to them. Next is the mommy Kildeer on the nest (she had 3 eggs last week)

look closely and can you see the beak, the baby bird and 2 eggs!!! so cool

Now below is a creek bed, the beavers have blocked it up again and barely any water is getting in. We were walking around and checking it out... Guess what the Kildeer's will be eating!! Yes, on all those little rocks are about 20 or more leeches attached - it's GROSS!! we have never seen anything like it before - those are all different sized babies - the adults are about 1.5 to 2 inches long!!

Then we end it with a peaceful picture for you all to enjoy!!!

1 hour Challenge

Tonight was an hour Challenge at Sisterhood of Scrap - I was thrilled to be involved with the great girls on the Forum - it was even better as i was able to complete a layout using Urban Lily Papers!! Want the papers, fantastic Rubons (the box is rub on from Confessions) - ask Becky, all this is in her store!

My computer was giving me problems and then I ended up with company so wasn't able to post layout until now - hope you like it!!

How to Heat Emboss!

I love embossing, it gives such a crisp clean look as well as brings another dimension to your scrapbooking/cardmaking project!

Heat embossing gives a flat stamped image a raised effect. There are two ways to heat emboss:

1. Stamp with a colored ink and use a clear embossing powder. Because the powder is clear, the ink color below will show through. For this option you want to use pigment inks, because they stay wet longer. Dye ink, chalk or solvent inks don't work so well for embossing.
2. Stamp with a clear embossing ink and use a colored embossing powder.

The method of embossing is the same for both options.

Your choice of ink.

For clear ink you can use embossing ink or Versamark For colored ink you can use any pigment ink.

Your choice of embossing powder.

There are several types: regular, super fine detail for detailed stamps, distress, tinsel, puffs, etc.

Your choice of stamps - rubber or clear stamps will work both fine.

A heat tool

Optional: a tidy tray and a anti static cushion

Tap the anti static cushion lightly over the paper or cardstock, and drag the light powder across the area where you intend to stamp. These cushions hold a small amount of cornstarch or similar ingredient, like talc, and offer an anti-static property to the surface. This avoids any excess embossing powder sticking to anywhere else on the paper or card-stock other than the stamped image itself.

Choose your ink and embossing powder colors

Ink your stamp and stamp the image on paper.

While the image is still wet, generously sprinkle embossing powder over the image, covering it completely. Place your project over the tray, sprinkle the powder, and tap off the excess—all of the powder stays inside the tray’s walls. When you’re finished, tip the tray up and pour the excess powder back into its jar. If you don't have a tidy tray, you can simply use a piece of scrap paper.

You will be left with only the stamped image, covered in powder.

Using a heat gun, gently heat the image. Hold the heat gun 6-8 inches away from the paper and move it gently from side to side

The powder will melt and the image will rise. When the entire image is embossed, turn the heat gun off. Let the image cool for a few seconds before handling it.

You can emboss on some specialty papers, like vellum or transparencies. However, you need to hold the gun further away from the paper to avoid burning or melting. You may need to heat the image longer because of the increased distance between the heat gun and the paper.

Vellum is a fun way to embellish your pictures and scrapbooking pages as well as create beautiful greeting cards and invitations with added interest and dimension.

Vellum is a fun way to embellish your scrapbook pages to add interest and dimension. Vellum is available in a wide variety of colors as well as in polka dots, swirls and other patterns. Paper crafters will also want to experiment with using a wide variety of paperweight from lightweight to heavy to achieve the desired effect.

Vellum is generally used to layer on top of other papers in scrapbooking and for journaling in scrapbook pages. Vellum is also a fun way to embellish handmade greeting cards. Birth announcements, weddings, baby and bridal shower invitations can also be dressed up quickly by printing the information right onto the vellum or print on the bottom sheet and add a thin weight vellum over the top of the typed information for
added interest.

You can hole punch through both layers at the top of your announcement or invitation and lace a slender ribbon through. This will keep the layers of paper together and give a finished look to your card.

When lacing ribbon through a greeting card is not practical you may find that vellum can be tricky to adhere to your other papers. Because vellum is see-through you can also see traditional tape or glue generally used to hold the papers together. A clever scrapbooker can hide the glue spot with other die cuts, brads, stitching, eyelets, letters, flowers, embellishments that are being used to complete the page.

Using vellum for scrapbook pages can be a really fun option hindered only by your imagination. Think of any material that is partially see-through and consider how it could be applied to your scrapbook pages. For example, vellum creates adorable shower curtains. You could use a shower curtain in a bubble bath scrapbook page or for the bubbles themselves. Other ways to use a vellum shower curtain could be to
highlight pictures with a shower and the song "Wash that man right outta my hair" for a page about breaking up with a boyfriend!

There are lots of ways to use vellum with a page themed for camping or fun in the great outdoors. The obvious choice is to use vellum for wings. From angel wings, butterfly wings or even cute insects on a child's bug collection scrapbook page. Create flies at the picnic or fireflies buzzing around the campfire or glass of the lantern. Try combining red, orange and yellow vellum to create realistic fiery flames, twinkling stars or shining moon. Use vellum to make a fly attached to the string on a fishing pole or to embellish
the scales on the fish itself, windows on the cabin or waves at the lake.

Wedding pages and velum go together to create champagne glasses or the bride's glass slipper for a fairy tale scrapbook page with her prince charming. Of course, you can't have a bride without a wedding veil and vellum makes the perfect paper medium for paper piecing and paper dolls to embellish your pages. Use vellum to recreate the wedding bouquet and tiered cake top for your scrapbook as well! If your background page is a darker color cut up small pieces of vellum to scatter around as confetti to add to the celebration!

Vellum makes fun snowflakes, icicles, ice cubes, skating rinks, or any objects related to ice or water. Think of vellum to depict glass items, clear plastic household products and containers, windows and curtains.

Using Bottle Caps

Bottle Caps and scrapbooking? You bet! Bottle caps create fun, colorful and dimensional layouts.

You can use bottle caps just they way they are if you like lumpy embellishments. Attach them with foam adhesive or pop dots.

Or you can flatten them! Use a rubber mallet to pound flat or you can even use your Sizzix, wizard, cuttlebug machines with converter! Just slide the bottle caps under the converter just like you were going to make a cut and *Squish* they flatten perfectly!

Uses for Bottle Caps:
*Use as tags (you can even thread fiber or ribbon through them by punching a hole with your hole punch/ cropadile!)
*Use for titles
*You can stamp letters or other images onto your bottle cap (use an ink such as Stayz-On that will work with metal)
*Use as deco circles
*Use as mini frames for small cropped photos
*Put a photo inside and then put some Liquid Glass/Glossy Accents over the top to seal and create a dimensional photo
*Create mini "bottle cap scrapbooks"
*Heat emboss
*Use rub-ons or stickers to decorate them
*Paint them!
*Cover them with fabric or patterned paper
*Collage or Alter them

Pick your paper to complement your photos or set a mood.

Decide how many layers you want for the page. Each photo could be different layers, mix it up for depth and looks!

oooh the weather we have had... sure wished it pelted some of the freaking mosquitos!!!
Snow @ dad's when I drove home, sunset 2nd night @ home in SK, Puddles everywhere, a little hail in SK, Pouring rain yesterday!!! crazy weather and to top it off - we have 7 Qtrs to seed and haven't started anything and it looks like we won't!! lots of farmers are in the same position as us! I still haven't been able to put in a Garden, no flowers floating either.

An Hilarious Blonde Joke

Had to share this joke - i shared with my family in the hospital and we laughed, so I hope it has the same effect on you!

After becoming very frustrated with the attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the young blonde declared, 'Well, then, maybe I'll just go out and catch my own alligator and get a pair of alligator shoes for free!' The shopkeeper replied with a sly smile, 'Well, little lady, why don't you go on and give it a try?' The blonde headed off to the swamp, determined to catch an alligator. Later in the day, as the shopkeeper was driving home, he spotted the same young woman standing waist deep in the murky water, shotgun in hand.

As he brought his car to a stop, he saw a huge 9-foot gator swimming rapidly toward her. With lightning reflexes, the blonde took aim, shot the creature and hauled it up onto the slippery bank. Nearby were 7 more dead gators all lying belly up. The shopkeeper stood on the bank, watching in silent amazement as the blonde struggled mightily and barely managed to flip the gator onto its back.

Then, rolling her eyes heavenward, she screamed in frustration.....

Spring Cleaning Scrap Supplies

Spring is finally here! When you live in a harsh winter climate like I do, spring is big news, perhaps you even still have snow! If cleaning out your scrapbooking supplies is part of your spring cleaning, here are some simple tips to get you started. I am currently trying to get my studio working for me, rather than against...

Take Inventory

Go through all of your supplies. Look through all the bins, jars, drawers and cabinets holding your scrapbook materials. As you look through them decide what you should keep, sell, donate or toss.

Organize Your Stash
For those items you want to keep, evaluate whether your current organization method is working. Can you easily find what you are looking for? If not, invest in a few new storage organizers. I personally am visual and love to have my supplies in the open and available.

Selling Supplies
You loved that page kit with the cute kittens on it at one time, but 3 years later you know it’s never going to make it onto one of your layouts. Still, someone may love that kit. For items that are still in the packaging and in new condition, try selling them on ebay, craigs list, a garage sale, or in a scrapbooking forum. Scrapbooking supplies often sell well in lots. I personally donate a ton of my product to my Children's Christmas Store.

Letting Go - pass them to your kids!
Now for those items that you should toss. It’s hard to throw things away, but seriously, those stickers you’ve been collecting since the beginning of your scrapbooking days are faded and no longer have any stick to them. Pass them to your children. Scraps of cardstocks that are now crumpled and faded should also go to your kids. Yes, maybe you could come up with some creative way of using them, but will you?

Cleaning out your supplies will give you some much needed space in your scrapbooking area. What will you do with that empty space? Sounds like a good reason to go shopping to me!

The following page is a basic guide to paper finishes. The word "finish" essentially means the treatment of the surface of the paper. In other words a paper may feel very smooth or it may feel rough. It is that texture or "finish" that we are referring to.

What we have provided here is a simple definition with some notes on how to identify the paper when you see and touch it. In addition we have included a few notes on what it can be used for and its limitations. There are also scanned samples of papers (enlarged so you can really see the finish). Liquid Glass - many uses!

How to use Liquid Glass (or glossy accents...crystal effects)

"Liquid glass? What's that?" you may be asking. Liquid Glass (L.G.) is an easy product to make images shine, look 3-D, and pop off the page! You can add liquid glass to any stamped image or even My Stickease. Basically, all you have to do is squeeze it out to cover the desired area and that's it! Here are a few tips on how to use this product effortlessly:

Don't shake the bottle! When you shake the bottle it add bubbles and makes the surface less smooth when you squeeze it out. If you have bubbles, gently squeeze a little out onto a scrap paper so that you can get the air bubbles out before your start your project.
Be sure to clean off the tip each time you use it so you don't get globs of it stuck to the outside.
It's best to keep the liquid flowing from the bottle instead of stopping and starting. Move your hand holding the bottle over the area you want to cover; this helps keep you from building air bubbles in the work. If bubbles form, use the tip of a toothpick to pop the bubbles.
Allow time to dry. 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness. If it's really thick let it sit longer.
Add sparkle to the liquid glass. Use the liquid glass like normal then sprinkle with glitter while wet.
To get a fun textured look, stamp tone on tone and then go back and put L.G. on the the stamped areas. It makes a fun look.
It's also the perfect adhesive for our sculpting foam. Regular adhesives do not hold well when using sculpting foam or Makin's Clay, but a little glob of the L.G. makes a great adhesive.
You can squeeze out circles onto waxed paper and make your own clear pebbles. You can use them to put over stamped images, or make bubbles for a fish etc. Very fun.
If you are using liquid glass on an image that will but cut out, first stamp the image, apply liquid glass, and then cut out after drying. If you cut out the image before applying the liquid glass, the paper may curl.

When you are done - replace lid and store upside down, this way it is always ready to go, No bubbles and No clogging!

Known as a 3D lacquer that adds depth and texture to your hand stamped projects. Will appear "cloudy" as it is applied but it will dry to a crystal clear sheen. The favorite way stampers like to use this product is to apply it to areas where they would like a 3-D look or "raised effect" . . . whatever you apply it to will seem to j-u-m-p right off the paper. However, there are other fun and fabulous ways to use Liquid Glass and I've listed a few below but first let's get the basics down.

TIPS

Use and store at room temperature.
Allow it to dry completely before handling. Thin coats will take only a few minutes but thicker coats may take a half hour or longer to dry completely. If you handle before it is dry you risk adding your fingerprint to your art work.- this too would be cool on certain pages...
To prevent bubbles, should not be shaken - if bubbles occur you can pop with toothpick or spread.
Once I start slowly applying, I try to NOT pick the tip up off of my project until it is completely covered. The key is to move slooooooowly and do not lift tip from surface during application until you are finished. This way there are no air bubble being “blown in” to your work. It may take you a little longer to get all of you work covered, but the outcome, is well worth it!
To achieve a thicker coating I have found it is better to apply several thin coats. If you try to apply it all at once you may cause the dye ink underneath to blur or "feather." Also, it is water based, so if too much is applied at once the paper may buckle.
Unless you are looking for a new technique or need the bubble effect on a page - Do not use heat gun to speed dry time. It becomes extremely “bubbly”. Does not speed up drying process for clear coating.
The tip of the bottle may become clogged. To prevent this from happening place bottle upright on table and allow it to drain back down into the bottle. Then you can use a piece of plastic coated wire (such as a straightened, plastic coated paper clip) to clear the tip of the bottle before you seal it. If the tip does become clogged, before I begin my project, I use the same paper clip to open a pathway for it to flow smoothly. Keep the paper clip attached to the bottle by wrapping a rubber band around the bottle and sticking paper clip in it. If you find your tip really clogged just unscrew the cap and rinse with warm water. Then dry and replace cap.

Traditional Uses:

Layer it on your projects to give a smooth glass-like finish.
Spot Gloss: Apply a thick layer of it directly to the stamped image with the applicator tip. Let dry completely (about 30 - 60 minutes) before handling.
All-Over Gloss: Use a paintbrush to apply a thin, even coat of gloss to the entire image. Let dry (about 3-5 minutes).
Use the applicator tip to apply a thicker layer of gloss to "select elements" of your design to add emphasis.
Apply a second or third coat if your first layer was not standing up off your paper enough to please you. Some ideas are to apply it to leaves, flower petals, insects, teacup, umbrella, window, eyes, li;ps, eyeglasses, Christmas ornaments.
Simulate dew on a petal by adding little droplets to flowers. You can also add it to the petals of actual dried flowers or fake plastic ones. This really does look like dew and you won't spend a fortune buying designers ones from stores.
Highlight only special lines on an image.
Use L.G. to outline your image. This provides the look of embossing without needing the heat gun. This looks especially inviting when used as "frosting" of a cake, outlining water pictures.
Try applying the L.G. in layers. By that I mean apply a thick line of L.G. to the outline of your stamped image. Allow that to dry and then come back with a brush and apply a thinner coat of L.G. to the inside area that you outlined. Allowing time to dry between applications will keep the areas from merging and will add depth and make the image look 3-D. You can also add a 3rd and 4th layer by applying a second coating to an area that has already dried. It will really make your images POP!
It truly gives the look of glass and as such looks wonderful when used on glass items such as a light bulb, or Christmas lights, makes the lights shine. Use L.G. on a fish bowl, or use it to create a faux glass "Bug Jar" and use a stamped bug to go in the jar.
Experiment with different applicators to add textured patterns to your stamp art. Use a paintbrush to apply a thin coat and swirl the bristles to create small circles, half moons, or squiggles to achieve different results. (Think of those large portraits by Olan Mills. that have circles swirled over them to make them look like paintings). Use a stencil brush to dab on gloss for a rougher texture. Use a sponge to create a spackled look.

Other Fun uses

Use L.G. to seal your shrink art pins. This creates dimension and provides a more exclusive look to your shrink art. This is the perfect way to seal your poly shrink wine charms while providing a great glassy finish.
After applying gloss to an image, sprinkle a little glitter on top. This adds more dimensional sparkle than using other types of glue and looks great as candle flames, camp fires, etc.
Create a dimensional paint. Add L.G to a spot on wax paper and then add a drop or two of re-inker and stir using a toothpick. Then apply color as desired to your stamped image allowing a few minutes drying time between colors so they won't blend. This provides truly beautiful results. Fabulous for a stained glass effect image
L.G. makes the perfect glue for any project!! Use it to attach your poly shrink plastic embellishments, beads, feathers, and bows. It is very strong, great for adding hard to hold magnets, pin backs, and wire to your stamped projects. Be sure to let it dry completely before handling. I keep a special bottle just for everyday household use in my kitchen as well as bottles in my scrap room.
Use it to make flat marble magnets or bulletin board tacks. Purchase the glass marbles/pebbles that have a flat side to them in the floral section of craft stores. Then use the circle punch to create the perfect shape to place behind these see-through marbles. Stamp desired image on the card stock circle and color it in using Markers. Use Krylon Matte Acrylic or use the Krylon Workable Fixative to seal markers. Next, apply L.G. to the flat marble and not to the stamped image. Then press the marble onto the stamped circle. If you don't have the Krylon to seal the markers, applying the gloss in this manner (to the marble instead of the stamped image) will keep the image colors from smearing. Apply a bit more L.G. and then attach a magnet or push pin to it.
Here's a twist on using it to make the flat, clear marble magnets . . .Trim small school photo to fit the back of the stone. Poor L.G. directly onto the picture (use wax paper underneath to catch waste and then add reinkers to color and continue using). Then adhere to the back of the stone. Let dry and then add magnet to the back for a refrigerator magnet of your little darlings.
Use it to glue vellum to card stock. It won’t show through. I’ve found the best way to keep vellum from wrinkling or “popping up” after application of gloss is to apply it with a fingertip or Q-tip applicator in a very thin coat . . . DO NOT apply it straight from the bottle.
Make Glitter Gloss using fine Glitter, and an old paint brush. This is really simple. Squirt out some L.G. onto a scrap of acetate or other non-porous surface. Using a toothpick, stir in some glitter until you have the consistency you want. Then using a paintbrush, brush the glitter gloss onto your stamped art, stamped tiles, polymer beads, etc. When dry, it gives a glossy and sparkly look to your art. Try using this to add glitter to snowcaps made with liquid applique, add highlights to ornaments, Valentine hearts, etc. Anywhere that you want to add a bit of sparkles. You can also use this same homemade glitter gloss on hand painted ceramics and clothing.
Make a Stained Glass Glitter Window. Stamp image on window sheets using Staz On. Allow a second or two to let it dry. Next, use the tip of the L.G. bottle to move it gloss around to cover each individual area with a thin layer of the L.G. While it is still wet, dump on glitter. Only do one color of glitter at a time. let each area dry at least an hour before going to the next color.
Use it for "fray check" on the ends of your ribbon after you have cut them to the desired length.
Place on top of Radiant Pearls or Pearl Ex and get even more pearlescent shimmer and shine.
Use L.G., stamped tissue paper and glitter to create beautiful, sparkling ornaments for Christmas or any special occasion.
Create "Shimmering Pearls" by adding a small amount of Pearl Ex powder to some gloss. Then apply over your stamp art with a brush.
Add L.G. to areas of images that you've dry embossed and achieve even more "pop"!
If you have Wood stamps: use it to re-glue any stamps that have either come unmounted from the foam or that you took off the wood block because you wanted to trim and re-mount.
Use L.G. to seal beaded pens. After you make your pen, set it into a block of Styrofoam. Let your pen cure (inserted into the Styrofoam) for 24 hours. Then dip the pen upside down into the bottle of gloss. Tip it right side up, and insert back into the Styrofoam to dry for another 24 hours. It works like a charm sealing the pen so that he beads won't fall off.
Use L.G. to seal Domino art when you've used chalks or Pearl Ex to color in your image. The L.G. creates a wonderful thick sheen when applied in more than one coat. Or you can use it as a sort of Modge Podge to attach a stamped tissue paper design to the Domino (similar to the candle/tissue paper technique or the glittery glass bulbs technique.)

Manners - do you have them?

This has been a question that just keeps popping up. When you receive a gift - wedding, birthday, baby, holiday, etc. - do you send a thank you note, phone and thank the person or nothing!

My thoughts and common courtesy on this subject is:
Acknowledge and say Thank You - send a note!!

In this day and age, seems like Miss Manners is out of a job. My family has sent wedding gifts, baby gifts, Christmas gifts, special out of the way B.D gifts. (cheer up or feel better gifts from us don't warrant an acknowledgement) If i wasn't going to get a polite message back, then I certainly wouldn't have driven somewhere, purchased a gift, wrapped it up, had my girls write a note or picture, then paid for postage for shipping/or dropped it off. Really, let me know earlier that you plan on doing nothing, and i will not waste my time, certainly wouldn't want to put you out!

You should have that "firing mechanism" in your brain that tells you to be polite (say please and thank you)- cripes, even my girls acknowledge and send off thank you notes or pics...

I know the people that i am speaking of have been brought up better than that, or so I thought. For the sake of teaching your children properly - start now and acknowledge - it's never too late - EVER!!!

Spring Cleaning - HELP - Donations

I am not sure if I shared this with you or not but I run a Children's Christmas http://www.goodtidings4U.com Since it is time for Spring & the infamous Spring cleaning, i would love for you to keep my store in mind - Donations greatly needed!

It's a place (home ec room) where the children can come in a purchase a gift for their Mom & Dad for $2. (Usually $10 - $20 & up gifts). I am always desperately looking for donations (gifts and/or money - I purchase gifts) and if you would like to part with any of your goodies - magazines, papers, albums, projects created, caps,etc., i would find them a loving home ** Ideas are last Q&A on page - scroll down**

Please check out my website & if you can spread the word, I would love it. All advertising, website and goodies come from my family’s generosity - we really sponsored the last 4 years. Last year due to our financial situation, we relied on donations – it took a lot of work, but it was a success.

2010 is going to be my 6th year. 78 kids came through the store in 2009 & I am pleased to say $300 is being donated to the school for reading program purchase.

A HUGE pay-it forward. ** You get to donate something that you don’t' use, fit, enjoy, not the right smell, - in turn a child can do chores to earn money to purchase the gift for $2 (I combine donations - check out my photos). Then the kids can come inside (no parents allowed) where they can take their time perusing the gifts laid out on the tables & take it up to the volunteers where we wrap and help them with a label and send them home. Each gift costs $2 (the gift they receive is $10 & higher in value) - they can only purchase 1 mom & 1 dad gift. All money is donated back to the elementary end of the school (since its younger kids shopping).

I am calling on YOU to help spread the word and make 2010 another exciting year for the kids and teach them about Christmas and the "real" spirit of giving. I tell people to just volunteer once and experience the excitement, joy and things the Children do or say - you would totally give every year with no questions asked.

I still have to put up my 2009 photos and such, just needed to get my 48 hour clock to work right for me - lol...

Glimmer Mist...using CTMH Products

I know that everyone loves to stay on top of all the new goodies out there. Here is a fabulous way to create some Custom Glimmer mist and coordinating with the 60 colors Close To My Heart already offers, embellishments, stamps, stickease and more and more... won't your pages just come alive!

To Create "CTMH Glimmer Mist" simply mix 50/50 rubbing alcohol and our Create-a-shade Pearl Paint in a small spritzer. I have used our spritzer for cleaning stamps. Simply empty, wash out and let dry ahead of time. Then add as much re-inker of your choice until the desired color is reached.

Adding Alcohol in place of water gives you the advantage of it evaporating quickly. FYI: The water based solution will take longer to dry.

Simply place whatever you want to CTMH Glimmer in a box (it keeps the spray contained and less mess) use a "sweeping" spray (lightly move your hand back and forth while spraying (no globs or heavy spray areas this way). Anything can be misted... paper, flowers, dimensional elements, use masks - circles, stamps, flowers, recycled items - just allow your piece to dry... Have fun creating - the possibilities are endless..

FYI: you want to start with lighter colors first as they will show up, then follow with darker... remember you can always darken papers, but lighten - NOT!

Heart - Altered Chocolate Box

I received a fabulous "HUGE" box of chocolates from my family on Valentines Day - well, if you know me well enough, you would know that I would savour the chocolates and then alter the box...
Here is the Bottom half of the box - i created this for my friend Tammy as she wanted something for her entrance. Yes, those are magnets you see, that way she can post up notes, put up the kid's school pictures and change each year. Multi purpose Heart!

You are invited to The Everyday Scrapper's Birthday CELEBRATION CROP

Hosted on Saturday, March 20th to Saturday, March 27th 2010, right here in the Online Crop section of The Everyday Scrapper Space!

Details:

On March 20th, this category of the forum will have 13 challenges, all with prizes, for you to enter. Each challenge hostess will post her own challenge with an example layout and a photo of the prize.

You have until midnight (eastern time) on March 27th to submit your layouts by posting them on the challenge thread you are entering it for.

Winners will be selected by random.org and announced March 28-30th on the same thread the challenge was posted on.

The rules:

- Participants must most their layouts on the appropriate thread.
- Winners of the challenges have 7 days (after the winner is announced) to claim their prize by PMing the challenge host to claim their prize before a new winner is announced.
- No combining of challenges - one layout per challenge.
- New layouts only, please.

Sisterhood of Scrap - March GREEN Challenges

Cindy has been posting some "GREEN" challenges this week. Fun stuff, and of course -- there are some prizes!

"Since this month has the first day of spring, St Patrick's day and Palm Sunday in it, I get to thinking green thoughts. Join me in challenges that involve green. These challenges may be in the form of a card, LO or altered project, basically anything goes except the project must have the color green in it.

I will give you 7 total challenges and the person who completes the most challenges wins a fabulous prize by me :) In the case of a tie we will pick a name from a hat. However, there will be 2 other chances to win prizes which will be revealed as the challenges are revealed.

You have until the March 21st to complete the challenges.

Post challenges in the New gallery with the challenge number in the title and then link or post a picture to the appropriate thread. "

Challenge #1 Show us at least 3 of the same shape in the Color GREEN. Ex. stars, circles, squares, leaves, etc...

Challenge #2 Use the word GREEN or the color GREEN in your title.

Challenge #3 Go GREEN with your scrapping. Use an old item that may not be designated for scrapping.

Challenge #4 Do a monochromatic card, lo or project using different hues of the color GREEN.

Challenge #5 Show your GREEN thumb.

Challenge #6 Use a SHAMROCK in your project

Challenge #7 Show me they money! Incorporate GREEN Backs or money on your project
